We arrived late almost every single day.

Second, essential trips are often impossible on foot or by bus. My father-in-law attends weekly physiotherapy at a clinic across town, and the nearest bus stop is still a fifteen-minute walk from his building - far too much for a man recovering from knee surgery.

In conclusion, my family's three weeks without a vehicle proved that, outside big city centres, a car is not a luxury but a necessity. I therefore cannot agree with the statement.
